Events

Miraloma families gather together at various times throughout the year to get to know each other better and to work together to improve the school. While fundraising plays an important role at the co-op, we have many social events that require little more than showing up and having fun! Here are just some of the annual and ongoing events enjoyed by our members.

Babysitting Nights

Once a month, Babysitting Night is hosted by a member family (or two) to provide other Miraloma families with four hours of low-cost babysitting at the school. The kids like being at their school at night for a change, and parents get an inexpensive night off. A sign up sheet is posted at the school for all interested parents in advance of the prescheduled evening.

Maintenance and Housekeeping Parties

Once a month, we have both a Maintenance and Housekeeping Party to give parents an opportunity to get to know each other as they work together to maintain our school.

Welcome Picnic

New and continuing members gather for a potluck at the school in late summer to celebrate the upcoming school year and meet one another.

Halloween Party

Miraloma families and the community are invited to the school on a weekend day for a Halloween Party. Both kids and adults get into the festivities at our first major social event of the school year.

Art Framing

As a fundraiser, Miraloma families and alumni can get their children's artwork matted and framed by our member families.

Quilt Raffle

In the early 1950s the co-op movement took hold in the Bay Area. At the time, most of the schools made quilts as a quiet way of fundraising. Miraloma continues this 50+ year tradition with our annual quilt raffle to be drawn at the Spring Auction.

Pajama Day

The morning program has Pajama Day in the Spring. Everyone comes in their pajamas for a special breakfast snack.

Spring Auction

Miraloma's largest fundraising and social event of the year, the Spring Auction contributes greatly to the co-op's operational budget. With over 1000 items up for bid and hundreds of attendees, this annual project requires work from the entire co-op. Member families solicit local businesses and individuals for donations, and volunteer for one of the committees needed to produce the event (publicity, data entry, event planning, etc.) Besides the wide array of items to bid on, there's also live music, a bar, and great food donated by many local restaurants and cafes.
