Our Philosophy

Learning should be fun

We offer a play-based curriculum in a supportive environment where children are free to explore who they are and how they relate to others and the environment through active play. Children have an opportunity to make choices about what, where, and with whom to play within an extended time period. This allows them to experience success in creating and determining their own play.

Building a positive self‑image and positive social relationships are the main goals of our programs. With the self‑confidence and interpersonal skills acquired at Miraloma, children are ready and able to meet the academic and social challenges that lie ahead.

Where everyone is welcome

Miraloma Cooperative Nursery School shares in the sorrow and anger at the individual and systemic violence against people of color in San Francisco and beyond. As an institution founded on a spirit of inclusion, we are committed to embracing diversity, modeling cultural humility for our children, and teaching respect. We reject racism and discrimination of all kinds, and aim to educate and activate our community so we can all do better.

Miraloma Cooperative Nursery School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, and other school-administered programs.

A parent-led cooperative.

A cooperative school is a non-profit organization where each family shares in the planning and operation of the school, with professionally trained teachers heading the classroom and guiding the curriculum. Participating in activities and the running of the school builds a sense of community and also empowers parents to influence their child's education. We believe that it is a unique and precious experience to watch our children learn and grow alongside their peers.

To ensure the success of our programs, each family is required to:
